Malfest began in 2011 and was a small but ambitious attempt to promote arts and literature in the Malpas area. We were able to this by bringing a group of artists, writers, musicians and performers together for four days. Many appearing did so as ”friends” of the organisers asking no fee or doing it for “mates’ rates”. The following three years saw the festival going from strength to strength culminating in 2014 when we saw the biggest number of audiences to date. It was also the most costly and it was acknowledged that we would have to seek some assistance if the festival was to continue to grow and raise awareness of Malpas and to attract visitors and increase tourism to the village and surrounding areas. We also decided to increase inclusiveness among the local population and groups.
Our efforts and success have been recognised by Cheshire West and Cheshire Council who have agreed to support Malfest this year.
